To optimize my resume for different industries, I used prompts that asked AI to reframe my existing experiences for both finance and healthcare audiences. My prompt requested two tailored resumes emphasizing analytical, quantitative, and transaction accuracy skills for finance, and empathy, communication, and teamwork for healthcare. For finance specifically, I added how I am currently taking an Information Systems class that has developed my knowledge of excel and also website building. I also asked for professional formatting and industry-appropriate language while retaining my original experiences and tone.
Between the original and AI-generated versions, the main changes included rewording job descriptions to highlight measurable, industry-specific skills. AI replaced general traits like “hard worker” with more targeted strengths such as “accuracy in handling cash operations” for finance and “compassionate listener” for healthcare. The formatting was also improved for clarity, readability, and alignment.
Through this process, I learned that prompt engineering, being specific about goals, tone, and audience, makes a huge difference in quality. Even small adjustments in phrasing can shift how my experiences are perceived. Tailoring content for different audiences isn’t about changing who I am, but about framing my strengths in the language each field values most.
